Welcome to Department of Botany

The Botany Department was established in 1954. Formerly it was affiliated to Osmania University, Hyderabad State as an intermediate college of Arts & Science. It is the First department in Marathwada region before establishment of Marathwada University in 1985. Numerous students learn from this department & most of the students are working in various services of State & Central Govt. & some students are fully engaged in Research Institutes, Private Organizations & different companies & also abroad.
Currently Dr. Vikas Gambhire is Head & Assistant Professor of the department. The students passed out from this department have got opportunities in various fields of Life Science like Forestry, Agriculture, Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology, Environment, Genetics, Plant Breeding, Plant Pathology, Taxonomy, Forensic Science & Plant Tissue Culture Industry.

Achievement of Departments: In academic year 2013-2014 Botany Department had arranged events which was sponsored by UGC-WRO Pune.

  • State Level Workshop conducted on 27th & 28th October 2013 on “Biodiversity in Plants”.
  • National Level Conference was organized on 27th & 28th December 2013 on “Recent advances in Biotechnology for Sustainable Development in Agriculture”.
  • Workshop on “Hands on training on Tissue Culture technology” in December 2016.

    Co-Curricular Activities
    • Plant of the Week The objective of this activity is to impart knowledge about medicinal plants and to identify the plant. Uses of plant and their medicinal propeties is displayed on the chart. A living plant is displayed in the corrider near front gate.
    • Tree Plantation Plant saplings are planted in the college campus, hostel premises and near library every year.
    • Poster presentation Every year poster presentation competition on various subjects is carried out to encourage students.
    • Medicinal Plant Exhibition Department organises a medicinal plant exhibition. All B.Sc I, II and III year students participate and present one medicinal plant.
    • Guest Lectures Guest lectures are organized every year on various topics to enrich the knowledge of students.
    • Medicinal plants plantation and conservation Students of B.Sc. I participate in the activity. Groups students are made, and asked to cultivate and grow different medicinal plants according to different themes given to them.
    • Visits to different Institutes and Industries Study visits are conducted to different Institutes and Industries to enrich knowledge of students.ss
