The National Service Scheme (NSS) was introduced in 1969 with the primary objective of developing the personality and character of the student youth through voluntary community service. 'Education through Service' is the purpose of the NSS. The ideological orientation of the NSS is inspired by the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi.

   AIM

A1 Personality Development of Students Through Community Service

OBJECTIVES

The main objectives of National Service Scheme (NSS) are :

    1. O1 Identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem solving process;
    2. O2 Understand the community in which they work;
    3. O3 Understand themselves in relation to their community;
    4. O4 Utilize their knowledge in finding practical solution to individual and community problems;
    5. O5 Develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility;
    6. O6 Develop competence required for group-living and sharing of responsibilities;
    7. O7 Gain skills in mobilizing community participation;
    8. O8 Acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitudes;
    9. O9 Develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters and
    10. O10 Practice national integration and social harmony.
RESPONSIBILITY

The main responsibility of National Service Scheme (NSS) are :

    1. R1 Environment Enrichment and Conservation
    2. R2 Health, family Welfare and Nutrition Programme
    3. R3 Programmes aimed at creating an awareness for improvement of the status of women
    4. R4 Social Service Programmes
    5. R5 Production Oriented Programmes
    6. R6 Relief & Rehabilitation work during National Calamities
    7. R7 Education and Recreations
